  • Search Engine Rankings not working properly? If the results aren't similar to those you see when you search the search engines directly, then read the possible reasons below. If you're still convinced that one or more of the results are broken, please get in touch. I always try to get bugs fixed ASAP.
  • Jun. 3, 2015: Yahoo! sometimes displays the same URL twice in a page of results. Previously, the search engine ranking tool assumed the first listing was an ad and ignore it. We realised there was nothing to indicate the listing was an ad. Hence, we have now fixed that bug. Thanks to Vincent Hudson for the heads up.
  • Apr. 15, 2015: Yahoo! has been fixed and is now working again.
  • Jun. 4, 2014: We are aware that Google sometimes serves up an error in the results. After extensive tests, our conclusion is that Google is probably serving a CAPTCHA when the tool queries Google too often. If this happens to you, please try again later. Thanks to Brad Vorhees for the heads up.
  • Mar. 30, 2014: Thanks to Skip Daley for emailing me about the Bing and Yahoo! bug. We're looking into it.
  • Jun. 5, 2012: We can no longer access AOL's search results. Hence, we've removed AOL from the report.
  • May 30, 2012: We've fixed the issue with Internet Explorer.
  • Mar. 12, 2012: The search engine ranking tool now returns the top 10 rankings for Google, top 20 in AOL, top 30 in Bing, and top 100 in Yahoo.
  • Feb. 6, 2012: The search engine ranking tool now returns the top 30 rankings in Bing. Please note that Bing returns highly personalized results: the rankings returned by Search Engine Rankings and when you search Bing.com are almost certainly going to be different. So only use Search Engine Rankings as a rough guide.
  • Feb. 3, 2012: The search engine ranking tool now returns the top 30 rankings in Google, top 10 in Bing, and top 100 in Yahoo. Thanks to Marcia Robbins and Randy Susick for the heads up.
  • Jan. 16, 2012: All search engines are returning results now. Thanks for the heads up, Don Sheppard and Chris Bick.
  • Jan. 11, 2012: We have fixed the Google results. Thanks for the heads up, Sean Wreggelsworth.
  • Jul. 10, 2011: We have fixed the issue that corrupted the Google results. Thank you to Paul and Andrea for bringing this to my attention.
  • Mar. 25, 2011: The search engine ranking tool searches the top 100 results in Google and Yahoo, but only the top 10 in Bing because Bing limits results to 10 per page.
  • Nov. 11, 2010: We have removed AltaVista, AllTheWeb, Yahoo! Directory and Dmoz because they are not relevant nowadays and require too much work to maintain.
